Week 20 Half Way There

Our baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. The baby is also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, our baby's legs were curled up against its torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of the baby's head to its bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, the baby is measured from head to toe.) At this point the our baby is swallowing more these days, which is good practice for its digestive system. The baby is also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in its bowels, and we'll see it in the babys first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

Current Baby Bump

Ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can I go from the picture in the previous post TO THIS in just ONE WEEK??? Are you kidding me!! Am I carrying TWINS??????????? I keep asking the Doctor, "Doc, are you SURE there's NOT TWO in there"? And everytime we ask she just laughs shaking her head! Of course her next words are, "No I'm positive, you ONLY HAVE ONE IN THERE"! At this rate I'm gonna be a size of a house when all this is said and done.

My Baby Bump

I can't fit into my pants any more and only have 5 sun dressess. I'm getting tired of wearing them already! I have a few gals who are blessing me with bags of clothes! Thank You LORD! Maternity clothes are way too expensive!!

19 Weeks

Our baby's sensory development is exploding! His or Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that he/she may be able to hear our voice now, so we can't be shy about reading aloud, talking to him or her, or singing a happy tune. Our baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. His/Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his/her body now. His or Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on his/her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on his/her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.
